Little Star Renovations started in a garage, with Jobie Mallett and his band taking on renovation jobs between music gigs.

The band van doubled as the work van. Bandmates became tradespeople. The scope was “we’ll figure it out” and the jobs were anything and everything homeowners needed.

The work took off faster than expected, mostly through word of mouth. People could tell Jobie cared — not just about the final result, but about what it felt like to live through a renovation.

Because here’s the truth: renovations can be brutal on homeowners. You're parting with a massive amount of hard-earned money. Your home is your most treasured possession, and then a crew comes in and pulls it apart. And then far too often the same story plays out: the homeowner starts out excited, the budget drifts, expectations split, and by the end they’re counting the days until their contractor is gone. Simply because the project was built on misunderstanding.

That disconnect became the real problem to solve. The gap between what a homeowner imagines, what gets priced, and what actually gets built.

So Jobie built Little Star to close that gap: a full in‑house design team and a process built around clarity (design before build, fixed‑price agreements, detailed scopes of work, and milestone payments tied to progress). The goal is a client for life — and a contractor you’re happy to run into years later. Today, we’re a small senior team with 200+ projects over 20+ years, built mostly through word‑of‑mouth.

We hired Little Star in Fall 2018 to undertake a full bathroom, living room, and kitchen renovation of our 1980's vintage townhome in North Van. Little Star was fantastic! We will use then again for the next reno for sure! We did a relatively large reno of our 45-year-old town house. All things considered, it went smooth. Any surprises, which we expected given the age of our home, were handled very professionally and we were always informed of any changes that needed to happen because of this. We redid the main floor, new ceilings, floors, powder-room and of course a new kitchen. Jobie has some fantastic ideas that really made the space feel unique and lovely. Upstairs, we added a bathroom with a beautiful curved wall that really opens the space and maximizes the space in the ensuite. All the trades were very respectful of our house, were kind and willing to explain things to us as they went. Couldn’t be happier with the end results!! We have been recommending them to all our friends and will use them again!
